The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) developed and implemented a public road information system framework for data collection, storage, and retrieval of public road information. The MDT framework cost approximately $823,000.
The Global Positioning System (GPS)/ITS framework allows:
- Montana counties to use the data for the 911 emergency response systems.
- Montana counties with road inventory data collection systems to utilize this data for validation and updating their systems.
- The Montana State Highway Patrol to use the data for proof of concept of the Automated Vehicle Location system (AVL).
