Safety is U.S. DOT’s top priority. The U.S. DOT National Roadway Safety Strategy (NRSS) outlines the Department’s approach to significantly reducing serious injuries and deaths on our Nation’s highways, roads, and streets, with the goal of reaching zero roadway fatalities. As part of the NRSS, the Safe System Approach focuses on five objectives: safer roads, safer people, safer vehicles, safer speeds, and post-crash care. U.S. DOT has also launched a data visualization tool to illustrate the significant impact of motor vehicle deaths in our communities.
