Olympic Villages are a great pilot deployment location for autonomous shuttles because of their controlled access, natural end date, and public visibility. The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics partnered with a tech company to add robotaxis to the transit modes available to athletes and staff participating at the games. The app associated with the robotaxis allows riders to easily find and request robotaxi rides through self-service procedures. The robotaxi is equipped with advanced features, including virtual reality navigation, remote car honking to locate the vehicle, and identity verification and pandemic prevention measures with QR codes. Additionally, the 5G Remote Driving Service is available, enables human operators to remotely access the vehicles promptly in case of emergencies.
