A Los Angeles Metro Concept of Operations reports estimates the costs to install a bike share system in the Los Angeles area.
In 2011 the Los Angeles (LA) Public Transit Authority, LA Metro, conducted a study of on the feasibility of developing a publicly run bike sharing system in the greater LA area. From this effort, LA Metro went on to develop a concept of operations for this bike sharing system. This concept of operations includes detailed capital cost information for the installation of a bike sharing system.
A bike sharing system costs about $3000 to $5000 dollars per bike. This price factors in the cost of:
- Bike racks
- Kiosks/terminals for renting the bikes
- Minor construction to install the bike racks and rental kiosks
- Other miscellaneous capital expenses.
Bike sharing system cost: $3K to $5K per bike
