Freeway Wrong Way Driver detection performance using video analytic systems from three vendors varied significantly.

• All tested systems were able to send notifications to the Traffic Management Center without issues.
• The best system achieved overall 95 percent detection system accuracy (94 percent actual detection accuracy).

Performance measures were found to be excellent indicators of vendor system detection, however real system performance should be further investigated based on actual wrong way driving detection over a sufficiently long time, or under a controlled environment.
